In some instances sole parent sessions may be undertaken to assist parents without their child being involved in the process. Parent guidance is offered for preschool children and in other circumstances when parents are unable to bring the child in for therapy or the child is unwilling to engage in the therapeutic process.
On commencement of therapy or an assessment of your child, Keren undertakes an intake interview with parents without the child present to obtain detailed developmental history and background information necessary to understand the presenting difficulties. Regular parental sessions separate from your child’s therapy is encouraged to support parents and to discuss strategies for home.
Keren also offers parent guidance and support as well as practical parenting skills in order to manage difficult behaviours, assist in tuning in to their child’s emotions and learn ways to build their child’s resilience. Emphasis is placed on strengthening the relationship with their child as well as helping the parents understand the purpose or underlying emotion behind their child’s behaviour.
